Sunday musings

Cartoon is from David Hayward’s website.

Stop by and tell us how your church service went, or talk about whatever you like…

The church I’m a part of will spend the next few weeks looking at some themes from Ephesians and Phillippians. The devotional for the next few weeks worth of services can be found here…we have a vibrant arts community within the church and that is reflected in the devotional itself.

Today, I listened to Brian Howard preach on Ephesians 2:1-10.

Sermon points:

  1. Outside Christianity all who live are in reality completely dead. Ephesians 2:1-3
  2. every spiritually dead person is headed toward God’s wrath Ephesians 2:3
  3. because of His great love for us God has brought the gift of rescue Ephesians 2:4-7
  4. God rescues us not cause we’re inherently good; rather, it’s an incredible, unearned gift Ephesians 2:8-9

Coming up this week on the blog:

More from Michael Spencer’s Mere Churchianity, plus Wednesday’s Linkathon. I’m also working on more blogger interviews, and am ruminating on a Erunner’s porch-type thread here and a thread on using blogging and other social media responsibly…

Interesting, we were just talking the other day about the idea of making God the “number 1 priority” when in fact that’s the wrong idea. It’s not about making God “number one”, it’s about God having preeminence in EVERY aspect of our lives. It’s not a list of priorities with God at the top, it’s God as our universe, our whole life; and all those other priorities arranged INSIDE God.
